Hello everyone! I have a very good friend who fell into the mbf scam!  Embarrassed After exhausting all of his resources to get the lease canceled their was a 4 month lull from MBF and then came the summons to apear in NY city court. Angry At this point I was wondering if anyone had any advice about what steps to take now that the case has been filed with the court. He has very limited time to respond at this point. Please feel free to contact me at strawberrybubblesOoO@yahoo.com. Any information is very appriciated!! Wink

Which state is he in?  If California, and he signed the contract in California he can file for a stay and fight it here.  Why are they going after him?  What do they say he owes them?  There is very little information to go on with.

We are in Washington State. They are saying he owes 5k+ for a lease term of 119 x 48 months. Then at the bare minimum 1k+ for attourney fees plus interest for the entire amount. He paid two months worth of the charges then when he found out he was being scammed he decided to close his account. He tried relentlessly to get this thing taken care of early but as we know now the whole business is a scam. So now i'm trying to help him find some answers. Any help that could be offered would be appriciated. Thank you!

I don't know what Washington State law calls for. If there is an unconscionable clause for having to go out of state when you have signed the contract in WA - you can file for a stay or to throw the case out in district court.  On the other hand, they do this knowing people are inconvenienced and have a problem travelling.  Then if you fail to show up at the hearing, by default they get a court order against you and can then try and legally collect in WA.   If you can't get a WA court to intervene, then going to NY is your best shot.  Take all reports filed on this website and Rip Off report website.  Also refer to the two links I have attached in one of the threads on this site - the more documentation you have reporting these SOBs the better.

Anybody else have similar experiences?  Please advise.

Good Luck!

We are being sued for 6 leases we were lead on to sign for these machines with one of their Companies: Lease Source, Inc.. Same owner Jay Cohen, same CEO Mezei, etc. We are having a bench trial in
NYC next september for just one of them. We live in Texas and we signed the leases in Texas. We have returned the terminals to them.
I filed a complaint with the AG here but it won't go anywhere.
We cannot afford the legal and travel expenses. Does anybody know how to join the Class Action Lawsuit allowed by NY Judge against Northern Leasing? The pattern is there in all cases. I just dont know why these people have not been stopped from scamming so many hundreds of thousands of customers and how long they will let them to get by with it!. It almost seems that someone is colluded with them in this scam. Hopefully one they day they will end up like Madoff or Stanford, but it will take years! What needs to happen to end this cycle of corruption?
Please any advice will be greatly appreciated!
